Course description This course introduces the skills needed to plan and cook healthy food.It covers:• safe storage and handling of food• working safely in a kitchen• using kitchen equipment • the cleaning and storage of equipmentDuring this course learners will have the opportunity to participate in some of the following: • Explore food from different countries and cultures• Use tools and equipment.• Apply number, communication, reading and writing skills.• Improve confidence and social skills through participation in group discussions and activities.

3. Entry requirements This is an Entry level course. No prior learning is needed. IMPORTANT - IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY AND/OR DIETARY RESTRICTIONS YOU MUST INFORM THE TUTOR PRIOR TO THE START OF THE COURSE.• You must be willing to observe health and safety practices as instructed. This includes personal hygiene and cleaning work station.• You will need to have the ability to follow simple instructions and participate fully with support if needed. 4. Equipment required • You will need to bring a clean apron, oven gloves, a tea towel and a container to transport foods home.• Please wear comfortable clothing and non-slip footwear. If you have long hair you will need to tie it back. • You will also need to bring writing equipment such as pen / pencil and a note book. 5. Assessment method Not available
