About the course:
This 9 week course takes you through the various concepts in counselling and is a pre-requisite for further counselling training. It is suitable for those curious about counselling, working in the voluntary sector, those wanting to use counselling skills as part of another job or persons wishing to become professional counsellors.

Success Story:
Many people take this course and progress to become fully qualified counsellors.

Course Content:
You will learn about ethics, counselling skills, non-discrimination, plus take part in listening practice and personal development activities. You will also need to be able/willing to attend all 9 sessions and take part in various activities, such as talking about yourself for a peer/listener.

Learning Style:
The learning style for this course is student-centred, offering workshops and experiential exercises.

Equipment Requirements:
Paper, pens and plastic sleeves and folder.

Assessment:
You will be required to complete weekly written homework assignments at level 2 (GCSE).
Weekly homework tasks - Internally Assessed
1500 word Reflective Writing - Externally Examined

Progression:
Successful completion of this course enables you to enrol onto the level 3 Certificate in Counselling skills, which is a 1 year part-time course and qualifies the successful candidate to work in the voluntary sector. To become a professional counsellor you will need to take the 3year BA (Hons) in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy for your professional training.

Additional Information:
Attendance - part time, one morning or one evening per week.
