Introduction:
This course will benefit anyone who is involved in helping others, for example social workers, teachers, nurses and volunteers.

Study Mode & Location:
This 10 week part-time course lasts for 3 hours per week and will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent's Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course is accredited by the awarding body ABC and will provide students with the opportunity to try out a number of basic counselling skills. The course offers a basic appreciation of three counselling approaches and offers an insight as to how counselling skills may be used safely.

It also offers students the opportunity to develop self awareness and to demonstrate their own personal development. Personal development work can be emotionally demanding and therefore there is a need for each person to take care of themselves and to share what they are willing to share and not to disclose what they would prefer to keep private.

Assessment:
Students are required to complete 1 piece of written work. (This is externally assessed).

There is also a formal assessment by observation of the students` use of counselling skills.

Unit 1 assesses a basic understanding of counselling theory.

Unit 2 assesses a basic competence in using counselling skills.

Unit 3 assesses personal development (which is externally assessed).

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
You can apply for the Level 3 in Counselling Skills.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
