2. Course description This programme focuses on the therapeutic relationship as the main catalyst to healing, wellbeing, growth and development with an emphasis on the use of the counsellor’s self and of the client-counsellor relationship in the therapeutic work. A key theme is the development of trainee’s self-awareness and impact of self on others, and bringing that awareness into the ‘here and now’ within the client-counsellor relationship.

3. Entry requirements Evidence of counselling training to Level 3 (minimum of 120 hours successful training in counselling skills and theory) as well as appropriate life experience and interest in working with people. You will also need GCSE English Language grade C or equivalent and be at least 21 years old. You will be considered on individual merit and evidence of work experience/voluntary work in a counselling or related setting will be an advantage. You need to be in personal therapy by the end of Term 1, Year 1 (60 hours over the whole two-year programme). You will need to be in clinical placement by the early part of Term 1 to enable you to gain 100 client hours which will be externally supervised in addition to internal supervision given at College. You will also need to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) Group and individual interviews take place February-August and last approximately 2 hours. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method Lectures and seminars are offered in each subject and you will also have regular tutorial contact and progress reviews. You will be assessed through written assignments, practical observations (tutor, peer and self-reflection), theory assignments, learning portfolios, presentations, case studies, work with audio/video transcripts, blogs and media presentations.
