About this course
* Must be 18 years of age and have completed Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or;
* Have considerable experience of work of an appropriate kind and level (either occupationally or on training courses) certified by a suitably qualified person.

This course is designed for those people who wish to involve themselves in counselling either in a professional or voluntary capacity. The course will offer the opportunity for participants to examine their own personal development and enhance their self-awareness. It will include various counselling skills and methods and their application in specific practical situations, including experimental learning, taking into account ethical considerations. Group work and role play will be included in the taught work. The course is suitable for professionals employed in education, welfare or social services wishing to develop a counselling role. It may also be appropriate for those working in a voluntary capacity with self-help groups or other agencies.
Previous counselling skills/ experience and/or training is a requirement or possession of the NCFE, Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
It will be necessary to do at least 6-8 hours of reading/ research per week, at home. A reading list will be provided and you will need to obtain two or three books. (Books at own expense).

What are the entry requirements?
- Must be 18 years of age and have completed Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or;
- Have considerable experience of work of an appropriate kind and level (either occupationally or on training courses) certified by a suitably qualified person.
There are five mandatory units:
- Unit 01 Acquire, develop and practice counselling skills
- Unit 02 Understand essential counselling theory
- Unit 03 Understand professional issues
- Unit 04 Develop self
- Unit 05 Contextual framework for counselling practice
- NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Counselling skills & theory.
- Continuous assessment plus portfolio and externally assessed written papers.
- External verifier may request photocopy of part of your portfolio but your confidentiality will be kept at all times.
- NB 80% attendance compulsory, completion of portfolio by end of course. 1hr 10mins written exam, (exam can be re-sit) students still accepted onto Diploma course if exam results not received at College discretion.
