This qualification is intended for candidates who want to learn initial counselling skills so that they can help other people - either voluntary or an employed situation and/or want to develop their understanding of counselling in order to decide on whether to continue towards training as a counsellor at a later stage. The course is part-time and will run for 30 weeks. Prospective trainees should be aware that the course involves experiential learning and self-awareness exercises that encourage participation in the learning experience. Throughout the course trainees will be expected to take responsibility for managing and evidencing their own learning. Trainees will not be trained counsellors on completion of the course.
