Do you care about the environment? Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to play a part in managing our countryside?
This course gives you the knowledge and skills you need to address today's environmental concerns. Not by studying environmental issues alone, but by looking at them in the appropriate social, economic and management contexts.It will give you a solid understanding of different land uses and their impacts on environmental management and the use of sustainable resources. You'll investigate factors that have influenced the development of current land use and management practices.You'll also study the concept of sustainable land management through a greater awareness of the environment.

Course programme
You’ll choose to specialise in either countryside or environment, and will study a range of introductory modules including Ecology and Ecosystems, Environmental Awareness, Biodiversity Conservation, Geology, and Countryside Recreation or Pollution and Waste Management.
How Will I LearnThe course is a blend of theory and practical sessions and will take you out of the classroom where you’ll see how the environment and countryside is actually manages in a wide variety of habitats and situations. You’ll meet environmental managers and see first hand some of the practical skills they use. You can study this course full-time, part-time or by Distance Learning. Distance Learning modules are delivered on-line on a part-time basis and students will attend 3 residential study weekends each year at the SRUC Aberdeen campus.
Progression OpportunitiesUpon successful completion of this course, students may apply to join year two of SRUC’s courses in Countryside Management, Rural Resource Management or Environmental Management and Sustainability.
