2. Course description This course aims to provide you with self awareness and developed listening skills which may enhance your current job roles. It may also be beneficial as a stepping stone to the next level in a career in Counselling The awarding body for this course is the Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). This is a UK awarding body that is managed by professional counselling practitioners, trainers and supervisors. It is the only awarding body in Europe to specialise in the field of counselling. The course is for people aged 16 and over who are interested in finding out what counseling is all about, and for those who want to gain basic listening/counselling skills to help others either in a voluntary or an employed situation.Qualification units and elements. All of the units are compulsory. Unit 1: Develop an understanding of the difference between the roles of helper, user of counselling skills, counsellor or friendUnit 2: Establish the helping interactionUnit 3: Communicate understanding of the other person's concernsUnit 4: Focus on the other person's agenda Unit 5: Use initial counselling skills with self-awarenessUnit 6: Use initial counselling skills within the helping interactionUnit 7: Use review and feedback within the learning processYou will be introduced to the procedures involved in Introductory Counselling Practice Skills, Introductory Personal Development Skills and Person Centered Counselling as developed by Carl Rogers and Associates. Over a period of 10 weeks you will concentrate on developing your own skills of listening, responding and clarifying, and are given opportunities to understand and practise these basic skills through discussion and exercises.
