Course programme

Modules

Modules are assessed by essays, dissertation, exam, in-class presentations, blogs/workbooks and practical project work.

Semester 1
  • Culture and identity in a globalised world
    This module will address the interrelationships between creative media industries and a variety of contemporary social and cultural phenomena in the context of globalisation.
  • Creative industries: the cultural context
    This module explores what we mean by the creative industries and who have been the key players in shaping cultural theory and policy.
  • Practice as research and development: Project initiation
    You'll be expected to initiate the research and development of a coherent and critically informed piece of work.
  • Creative industries placement
    You'll apply your academic learning at postgraduate level within a practical context. This will usually be a work experience placement within the cultural industries.
Semester 2
  • Researching the media industries
    This module will provide you with the research skills required to engage in meaningful graduate level research in the cultural and creative industries. The module will focus on two aspects of study: the theories and methods of media research and the social, media, cultural and policy contexts of research.The module will prepare you for the final research paper.
  • Research paper
    The Research Paper is the summative element of the MA degree. The Research Paper gives you the opportunity to conduct original research in an area of your degree or field of interest.
  • Practice as research and development: Project production
    Following on from project initiation. You'll be expected to develop and manage a coherent and critically informed piece of work.
