Creative Sewing

Course Aims:
The aim of the course is to introduce students to a variety of mixed creative sewing skills and techniques, including colour theory and design principals to enable students to develop craft skills in a more creative way. Students will be given guidance to combat trouble shots with the sewing machine.

Course Content:
With support and guidance from your tutor, you will familiarise yourself with craft materials, resources, tools and equipment.
You will be encouraged to investigate different materials and techniques to allow you to take ideas forward for creative development. You will also cover Health and Safety procedures relevant to the craft.
Free style machine embroidery and appliqu work will be covered. Students will have the opportunity to complete personal projects such as creative bags or textile hangings, trimmings for fashion or furnishing fabrics and decorative fabric jewellery.

Progression:
Level 2 Creative sewing or mixed Crafts. There are a variety of Art & Design part time course across the Faculty.

Awarding Body:
ncfe

Exam:
Each student will be expected to keep a folder for handout sheets, research and student planning and preparation for their project work.
Assessment is informal and ongoing. Students will produce a portfolio of work showing completion / evidence of three mandatory units which are assessed by the tutor and verified by an external ncfe moderator

Qualification:
Level 1 Certificate in Creative Craft. (Creative Sewing)

Advice will be given on the first session from your tutor.

Duration:
2 hours a week for 30 weeks
