Course programme
A very successful class to help you develop your skills as a writer of prose. The course will help you critique both your own work and that of other authors. Suitable for beginners as well as more experienced writers.Continuing from the spring term
What will the course cover and how will it be taught?
During this course you will:
- explore the craft of creative writing in the context of a highly supportive workshop.
- complete exercises that aim to raise your awareness of elements of poetry and prose in order to achieve the clear understanding of techniques which will equip you to practise writing as a skill.
- learn to confront the blank page confidently with a genuine ability to redraft work on your own.
- learn to use some technical language to discuss your own and other people's creative writing critically.
Your tutor will discuss the course content with the class and may make some adjustments to the syllabus based on the needs of the group. They will also try to accommodate individual requirements where it is practical to do so.
The classes will be a mix of tutor led discussion; analysis of examples; peer review and the completion of class and individual exercises.
You and your tutor will check your progress together through discussion, keeping an ongoing record of progress and through the creation of a folder of achieved work and a class anthology.
Are there specific requirements for joining?
A prior interest in reading and writing. A willingness to share your work with other members of the class.
