Course programme

This course is delivered over three consecutive weeks and during this time we will look at various aspects of crime writing with a view to your starting your own piece of writing. Week 1 – Detective V Criminal – we will look to outline your style of detective – what makes them stand out from the crowd (or not). How do they end up being the detective? On the other hand, you may be more interested in your criminal – how do you want your reader to respond? Week 2 – Setting and Deed – the setting of your work may play an important part in helping to establish your crime – what do you want to say? Week 3 – Foreshadowing and Outcome – how much detail will you use – will this be a 'locked room' event or will your allow your reader more information than your detective? We will look at creating plot-twist and the development of your outcome.
