Suitable for: This fascinating course explores crime in modern society, from the causes of crime to the effectiveness of deterrents. It examines the relationship between crime and social factors, as well as the philosophy behind punishment. In the process, it provides invaluable insight into criminological theories. It will be particularly relevant to you if you plan to do probation work, join the police in a civilian capacity or wish to prepare for more advanced studies. The course is in two Modules. You can enrol for each Module separately if you wish.

Specification
The course covers the following topics:
Module One
Introduction to criminological theory; psychology, psychiatry and psychopathy; crime, victims and the media; young people, the family and crime; crime and gender; crime and class; important criminological theories.
Module Two
Police organisation and attitudes; crime and the aims of punishment; imprisonment; alternatives to imprisonment; white collar and corporate crime.
Module 1 is now available with Module 2 to follow. If you enrol for the present Module 2 we will send you an update on publication.
COURSE INCLUDES:
· Two specially written Modules contained in a ring binder
· Activities to consolidate your learning
· An Assignment for each Module, marked by your Tutor and returned with Suggested Solutions
· Final Assignment covering both modules (supplied with the full course only)
· 1-year service contract - you can take up to 12 months to complete the course if you wish
