Candidates are required to complete Units 1 - 5 (Mandatory units plus either Unit 6 OR Unit 7 to achieve thefull qualification. . 1. Prepare yourself to deliver good customer service. 2. Communicate effectively with customers. 3. Do your job in a customer friendly way. 4. Provide customer service within the rules. 5. Recognise and deal with customer queries, requests and problems. 6. Maintain a positive and customer-friendly attitude. 7. Adapt your behaviour to make a good customer service impression. Suitable for: Suitable for all - This qualification provides individuals with an opportunity to get the skills and knowledge needed for a career in customer service or any job which involves dealing with customers. The six units encompass a broad range of competencies from the customer service sector. This NVQ has been designed so that some evidence can be gathered in the workplace and some evidence can be generated from simulation.

The Level 1 NVQ in Customer Service is designed to reflect the skills and knowledge of people who are thinking about a career or working in a job which involves dealing with customers and related activities. The aim of the NVQ is to recognise the skills and competences of candidates in the workplace. It is suitable for beginners and also for candidates who work in any environment where communication and customer care are part of the service and is not restricted to sales of goods or products. This qualification provides individuals with an opportunity to get the skills and knowledge needed for a career in customer service or any job which involves dealing with customers. Suitable for all.

This qualification reflects the qualification structure for the Level 1 NVQ in Customer Service published by the Institute of Customer Service (ICS). It uses the associated National Occupational Standards (NOS) units that belong to that structure and that are published by the ICS. These qualifications are about working in a retail environment. You will find them appropriate if you are: Already competent in basic retail skills and require recognition of a wider range of abilities in retailing.
