Dance, A2-level
AS & A Level
About the Course
AS Level
Unit 1 is a written exam in which you will write about the dancer as a performer, showing knowledge and understanding of the demands made in practice. You will demonstrate your knowledge of the process and craft of choreography, as well as the significance of dances.
Unit 2 is practical, and involves choreographing and performing a solo in response to a question paper set by the exam board. You will also develop your physical and interpretive skills in relation to a duo/trio performance.
A2 Level
Unit 3 is a written exam building on your existing work. You will continue to receive instruction in technique, anatomy, and the health and safety of the dancer. You will also critically analyse and appreciate one set work from the modern dance era.
Unit 4 involves creating a group choreography in which you do not dance, produced from research and investigation of ideas for the question paper set by the exam board. Finally, following on from the work you studied in Unit 3, you will demonstrate practical skills in relation to a specific practitioner, choreographed by yourself or with help from your teacher. Assessment is by visiting examiner.
