Why Dance?
The AQA A Level Dance specification gives students the opportunity to experience
performance and choreography and to engage in critical thinking about dance across a variety of contexts, genres and styles. Furthermore study of dance promotes a healthy lifestyle and physical and mental well-being through developing creativity, exercise and training.
The AS and A level can lead to further study in Dance in Higher Education at degree or
HND level. It can be used as part of your course to broaden your studies and may lead on to a career in the performing arts field. It complements a range of subjects and is useful in developing skills in communication, working with others and improving on your own learning.

Unit 1: Understanding Dance -
Unit 2 : Choreography and Performance
This practical unit develops experience and
understanding of:
Unit 3: Appreciation: Content and Context
Unit 4: Group Choreography and Solo

How Will I Be Assessed? AS
Unit 1: Written examination
Unit 2: Practical coursework internally
assessed and moderated by AQA
Unit 3: Written examination
Unit 4: Practical examination externally
assessed by AQA examiner

Any Special Requirements ? A minimum of grade C in GCSE Dance if taken. Prospective Dance students will be expected to successfully pass an audition. This could be something you have worked
on in the past such as GCSE choreography or something created especially for the
occasion. It is essential that you are an active participant in dance and previous
experience in ballet, modern dance or jazz technique is desirable.
