Course programme

The Dance specialisation in the Bachelor of Fine Arts builds on the VCA's outstanding reputation for performance-focused dance training. It attracts highly motivated dancers who are willing to meet the program’s technical demands and creative challenges.

The integrated dance curriculum develops technically strong, kinaesthetically aware dance artists and provides the foundation for an autonomous and sustainable career in dance. It is designed to develop and challenge your technical, creative and analytic abilities through specialist training in contemporary dance, classical ballet, dance science and somatic practices, choreography, and performance.

The program offers you the option to focus your elective studies on further specialisation in dance, or an interdisciplinary approach through VCA electives from other artistic disciplines.

Located in the arts precinct of Melbourne, Australia’s dance capital, the VCA’s state-of-the-art facilities include five purpose-built dance studios, and an intimate studio theatre. Dedicated video editing suites and seminar rooms provide up-to-date learning environments for dance video, anatomy, dance analysis and performance psychology.

Selection into this specialisation is talent-based and includes an audition and interview.
