This is a challenging Level 4/5 part-time course. It is aimed at candidates 18 years of age and over who have achieved the level 3 DDI qualification and wish to complete their training in order to become a fully qualified and accredited ISTD dance teacher. The DDE has been accredited by Ofqual at Level 4/5 on the QCF which is roughly equivalent to the level attained at first year degree level. Chichester College offer the DDE in Imperial Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap Dance.

What you need to know
How will I study?

Unit 1: Planning Techniques and Evaluation of Dance Teaching. You will develop your skills in producing and evaluating lesson plans appropriate to your personal dance teaching practice. Unit 2: Dance Teaching Practice. You will develop your teaching and learning strategies through teaching practice. Unit 3: Lifespan Development. You will study the physical cognitive and emotional development of the dancer at various stages of life and how and why this will inform your teaching. Unit 4: Dance Practice and the Relationship between Music and Dance. You will develop your dance technique and your ability to relate teaching methods and safe dance practice to your chosen genre(s). The focus of the unit is on understanding and demonstrating the level of technique required for Grade 6 to Intermediate. Unit 5: Contextual Study of Dance. You will research an aspect of a dance genre(s) or of dance in general, critically engaging with the topic through a written presentation.
How will I be taught?

The DDE will be delivered through a series of class seminars, practical sessions, technique classes, theory lessons, guest lecturers and individual tutorials. You will have the opportunity to study Lifespan Development as a Distance Learner. Private study forms an integral part of this course and you will be given clear guidance regarding the activities you should be undertaking outside of college to compliment your studies and ensure successful completion of the course.
How will I be assessed?

Assessment techniques are designed to assess each unit of the qualification in an appropriate manner. Unit 1: Tutor-assessed portfolio evidence Unit 2: External moderator Unit 3: Tutor-assessed tasks and external exam Unit 4: Practical exam assessed by ISTD examiner Unit 5: ISTD marker
