Dance AS Level
In AS Dance practical dance techniques from all genres and styles are studied and supported by the essential theory to explore the wide ranging subject of dance. Please note A2 Dance is not available.
What does the course involve?
The course covers the following: Practical Dance Technique, Choreography Practical & theory. Communication in Dance, Understanding Dance, Constituent Features and Form of Dance, Physical & Interpretative Skills, Rehearsal, Dance Studio Safe Practice, Significance of Dances, Technique training, Health & Safety of the Dancer, Analysis and critical skills of choreography and performance in own work and professional repertoire.
What will I study?
You will study two modules
Unit 1 Understanding Dance. An hour and a half written paper.
Unit 2 Choreography and Performance. Practical solo choreography and performance as a duo or trio.
There is a written examination at the end of the course plus a practical assessment and moderation.
What else do I need to know?
Course Essentials
Ipod or mp3 player with headphones, 2 blank CDs, 2 blank DVDs, folder, paper, writing and drawing equipment. For information about dance practice clothes see kit list sheet and order form.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to have dance experience?
Experience is preferred if you are to do well on the course. This could be GCSE Dance, or experience with dance schools in ballet or contemporary dance.
What is the balance between theory and practice?
Some lessons will contain both theory and practice. You should always bring pen and paper and always be prepared to dance.
Are specialist facilities available?
You will use the gym which is furnished with mirrors. Some sessions may take place in a specialist dance studio.
Can I continue to A2 Dance?
No, unfortunately we are unable to offer A2 Dance at this time.
