The first stage of the programme offers participants dynamic, hands-on workshops run by our award-winning trainers. The culmination of the day sees students working in teams to produce their own Ten Shot Films&all in time for a Film Festival and awards ceremony to end the day! About this course

Minimum number of pupils that can attend is 30 pupils and a maximum of 100. No previous experience is necessary.

One Day Film School

Young Film Academy is the UK’s leading provider of practical filmmaking programmes to young people aged 8-18. Wherever we go, students are desperately keen to learn more about digital filmmaking and the possibilities it offers them for learning and creativity. Visual culture is now an integral part of their lives and new avenues for creativity are emerging all the time.

Becoming conversant in digital imagery is now an important part of their education. The One Day Film School gives a group of up to 100 students a chance to immerse themselves in filmmaking for a full day.The first stage of the programme offers participants dynamic, hands-on workshops run by our award-winning trainers. The culmination of the day sees students working in teams to produce their own Ten Shot Films…all in time for a Film Festival and awards ceremony to end the day!

The day includes workshops on film history, screenwriting and camerawork, as well as fight choreography (always one to wake the students up!) The aim is to give students a day that is inspirational, dynamic, highly enjoyable and practically instructive. Participating schools have found that the One Day Film School can provide benefit at the following times in the school calendar: early in the Autumn term - teambuilding for new intake or year groups, Arts weeks/festivals, recreation/educational weekend activity for boarders and for post-exam period.

We conduct The One Day Film School on campus and bring along all the equipment necessary to give the students a truly hands-on experience. The practical requirements for the school are minimal: two spaces large enough to accommodate the pupils, plus a DVD screening facility. Above 100 students, further students are charged at £13 + VAT each, up to a maximum of 150 students.(Please note: a travel and accommodation surcharge may apply for schools more than 75 miles from London.)

Young Film Academy was founded in 2004 by directors James Walker and Ed Boase. Together, their films have been shown in over fifty festivals worldwide and broadcast on the BBC, HTV, Canal+ and Rai 1, among others. Awards include Best UK Short (Raindance Film Festival), Cocotte-Minute Grand Prix (Brest International Film Festival) and Best Director (Capalbio International Film Festival). Magma PIctures, their film production company, is currently producing its first feature film, Blooded.YFA is the official workshop provider to over 50 independent and state schools in the UK, as well as the Guardian Hay Festival, the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the London Children’s Film Festival. All YFA tutors are professionals currently working in the film and television industry.
