About this course

Our aim is to make local workplaces deaf aware and deaf friendly. We will teach you some basic British Sign Language, talk to you about being deaf aware and the importance of it, through some discussion, games and teaching.

This course is intended for any workplace or team who want to become more deaf aware.

We require a minimum of 8 participants on the course, please contact us for any queries regarding this.
Cost is to be negotiated, and venue can be negotiated.

Deaf Awareness

We specialise in the areas of awareness of Deaf (and Deaf/ Blind) information, and improving communication in a fun and interactive way. Our training courses will be designed around your training needs, your timescales and the budget that you have available. You and your colleagues will be left with new knowledge and some useful tools to improve your ability to communicate well with your deaf friends, colleagues, family members, and your clients.

The range of training we can offer includes:

  • One-off “introduction to…” sessions lasting 2 hours
  • More detailed introduction sessions lasting 2 – 4 sessions over several weeks
  • Regular training courses run over many weeks

Consultancy

  • Our lead consultant is available to give advice on Deaf and Deaf/ Blind information
  • We are not lawyers, but we can help you to ascertain how your company can comply with Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA), specifically in the areas of Deafness and Deaf/ Blindness
  • We will work to Signpost you or your company to appropriate Deaf and related organisations, websites and helplines
  • We can put you in touch with a wide variety of professionals and informal contacts working in the areas of Deaf and/ or Deaf Blind

Bespoke

  • We will tailor the course to your workplace, including teaching some basic BSL that's relevant to you
  • You will have the opportunity to tell us what terminology and phrases you use on a regular basis
  • We will provide you with personalised resources
