Dementia and Dealing with Challenging Behaviours

Dementia is very common in older people, which makes looking after residents increasingly difficult. This course discusses the different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementias, Huntington’s Chorea, Lewy Body dementia, CJD, Acute Confusional states and looks at how to distinguish between them. The causes and prevention of Acute Confusional State is covered as well as the management. The signs and symptoms of dementia are investigated together with the stages of dementia and the treatment. Challenging behaviour is a situation most carers have to deal with at some time and this section of the course equips the carer with the knowledge of what triggers challenging behaviours and how to deal with the situations.

Suitable for carers, senior carer and home managers.
