Course programme
The Diploma in Dental Hygiene is a full-time programme of study lasting two academic years (90 weeks of study). The programme starts in September and eleven students are admitted each year. This programme is validated by the General Dental Council. The aim of the programme of study is to educate you to become competent Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists capable of unsupervised practise within dental teams, working to the prescription of dentists.
Being a Dental student at Cardiff is great! I thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the weird and wonderful things that go on in the body during our anatomy and physiology lectures, as well as having pre-operative sessions on phantom heads to prepare us for our first patients!

This is due to the fact that some modules have limited numbers of places available, which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, while others have minimum student numbers required before they will run, to ensure that an appropriate quality of education can be delivered; some modules require students to have already taken particular subjects, and others are core or required on the programme you are taking. Modules may also be limited due to timetable clashes, and although the University works to minimise disruption to choice, we advise you to seek advice from the relevant School on the module choices available.Dental Hygiene (Diploma)
