This new and strategic BA Design degree has been designed for those students wishing to acquire new skills and knowledge and to enhance learning to find new solutions and develop new proposals to global issues within design.

This course has been outlined from the strategic decision of having a multidisciplinary attitude which we find advantageous in the current and future global marketplaces. We have created and developed all our units with this goal in mind, binding them in this objective while having retained their specificities. Our graduates will thus benefit from this unique standpoint, enticing them to be global all-around players.

Graduates from the BA Design will have the opportunity to work in visual agencies (advertising, design) or product design companies in jobs as communication design, interactive design or product design.

About this course

Have completed secondary education (12 years of study) in the country of origin attested by a legally issued certificate.

All applicants must present their portfolio, which should display:

Drawing skills.
Interest in design and communication.
Commitment and motivation about design.

The BA (Hons) Design is 100% online, designed to let you go to school on your time, according to your life, not according to a class schedule.

Within around 30 months you will have a completed design degree accredited by a University for the Creative Arts (UCA) one of the United Kingdom’s leading specialist universities, taught in your language without leaving your city.

Teaching and learning methods adopted in the course:

Taught in English, Spanish and Portuguese;
Maximum of 3 units at the same time;
Unit contents are asynchronous and organised by weekly topics;
Tutor Centre works as support and engagement for the student;
Online resources (e.g.: lectures, seminars and discussions, tutorials and feedback sessions, facilitated online student forum and discussion groups, practical exercises).

Course programme

STAGE 1
Aims to professionally prepare for the various areas of design at large, providing an advanced higher education, comprehensive, coordinated and supported by the latest developments in the scientific and technological fields.
Have a contemporary and encompassing understanding of the concepts, tools, history and methods of design at large and the links between key areas of activity (such as communication, interactive and product design);Develop a comprehensive vision of the themes associated with the mission of design, their interaction with markets and their role in society.


STAGE 2
Graduates are prepared for an evolving market environment. This preparation aims to instil solid skills for project development and implementation, articulated around the main areas of communication design, interactive design and product design.
Identify and Analyse: analysing the environment in which problem-solving takes place; thinking creatively; identifying the conditions and objectives associated with the resolution of problems; identifying the resources and skills required;Make Choices: being able to make decisions; understanding the uncertainties and related risks; anticipating the future implications of decisions; developing the ability to question the choices made;Integrate processes and diversity of interests while increasing flexibility and innovation;Implement: planning and organising; creating appropriate environments; implementing and controlling; developing creative skills in the design and project implementation stages


STAGE 3
By stage 3 Graduates should be independent and entrepreneurial people who can also bind with teams of designers, or interdisciplinary teams, on a casual or permanent basis.
Flexibility: being able to handle a variety of design projects and adapt to changing circumstances as a multi-competent professional open to multidisciplinary teamwork;Empathy: being able to understand different points of view and argue them;Realism: making a valid assessment of their capabilities and acting capacity at any given moment, while trusting their competence and performance;Entrepreneurship: the ability to create, develop and sell an idea, visual work, product or service.

Students with Disabilities

Mature Applicants
Applications from mature students are welcomed. Mature students may apply on the strength of a portfolio and previous experience (or accredited prior learning).


Minimum English Language Requirements
If your first language is not English, a certificate is required as evidence that you have an average IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent.
In the case of courses taught in Portuguese or Spanish, if your first language is not the same as the language of the course you wish to study, students are expected to demonstrate that they have the language skills necessary for undertaking the MA to the equivalent of IELTS 6.0.
