Hear from one of our tutors about studying Design at Liverpool Hope.
The Design degree combines theory and practice in this subject, which is central to society where most of what we see, use, or have contact with, has been designed. Practical studies include opportunities in printed and constructed textiles, studio and industrial ceramics, computer aided design and manufacture, objects for the interior, product design, silversmithing and jewellery.
During this degree you will follow a contemporary curriculum where practical skills are underpinned by the critical, contextual, historical, conceptual and ethical dimensions of art and design.
You will work in studios and classrooms on a campus specialising in the creative and performing arts in a City renowned for its creative culture. The degree offers graduates a diverse range of career pathways including designer/makers and related employment in buying, marketing, education and art therapy. Some of our recent graduates have gained employment as resident artist/designers within the community and public arts and working as curators.

The second half of the year extends the material understanding and skill base within design projects. This is underpinned by Theoretical and Contextual Studies, Business and Professional Practice, and Health and Safety.

Level 2

You will continue to develop your theoretical and practical skills through continuous tutorial consultation and supervision enabling you to acquire a firmer sense of your creative strengths and skills, and to define and refine your personal aesthetic. You will be encouraged to work on set and self-initiated projects which are supported by Design Development, and Theoretical and Contextual Studies.

Level 3

You will follow an individually designed programme, agreed by the subject tutors and making full use of the workshop facilities, within which to demonstrate your creative flair, manufacturing capability and professionalism.
