It will give you the ability to create your own website using the features and facilities of the Macromedia Dreamweaver- Studio 8 package. The emphasis is upon development of a website for a small business or other commercial organisation Students interested in setting up a personal or non commercial website should consider -Designing a Personal Website using Dreamweaver .

  • Planning and designing a suitable web structure using a good design practice
  • Using Dreamweaver- to create your web structure
  • Accessibility issues associated with commercial or organisational websites
  • Creating a -house style using Templates and other appropriate design concepts
  • Create easily manipulated product and service catalogues using repeating groups
  • Using simple techniques for taking orders order forms
  • Using simple techniques for getting paid using Paypal
  • Adding testimonial, comment and feedback facilities
  • Publishing your website on the World Wide Web
  • Getting your website noticed on the World Wide Web
Teaching and Learning
You will work through a series of structured exercises using a prepared set of resources to develop skills and knowledge. These will then be applied to a website of your own design.

During each lesson there will be a taught element with time available to apply techniques learned to develop your own website with the opportunity for one-to-one support.

Course notes and materials are available on-line allowing further development of your website outside the college.

The course is progressive, building from week to week, using basic skills and techniques in different ways to reinforce learning and develop new skills in a logical manner.

Web publication of personal websites will require that students obtain web space from an Internet service provider. Many students will have this as part of their normal ISP package. The course will demonstrate web publication through use of the college†s Intranet services, which are not accessible via the World Wide Web.

Assessment details
There is no formal assessment with this course.

Progression: Further Web development techniques can be learned through the Web Design using Dreamweaverâ"¢ - Intermediate course.

Notes

NB There will be no class on Wednesday 3 March 2010

Extra costs : USB memory stick, (512 Mb or above recommended), writing materials, notebook, a copy of Dreamweaver Studio 8 web authoring package and web space supplied by an ISP.
