ADR specifies that persons other than the driver, involved in the carriage of dangerous goods, shall receive training in the requirements governing the carriage of dangerous goods. This training shall take the form of general awareness training, function-specific training and safety training. Examples of personnel covered by this training requirement include:
- Personnel employed by the road vehicle operator or the consignor
- Personnel who load or unload dangerous goods
- Personnel in freight forwarding or shipping agencies
- Drivers of vehicles other than those holding a certificate in accordance with ADR 8.2.1
Dangerous goods awareness training can be configured to meet the requirements of individual clients. Dangerous Goods Bureau can provide a wide range of training programmes in various areas of specialisation, these include:
- Dangerous goods transportation
- Hazardous goods handling
- Hazard recognition
- Packaging requirements for dangerous goods
- ADR awareness training
- Classification and identification of dangerous goods
- Dangerous goods documentation
- Security
- Basic chemistry and chemical naming
- Illicit drugs and chemical weapons awareness
The aim of the above training modules is to equip the attendees with the skills and understanding necessary to carry out their jobs safely and effectively. A qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) will run all training courses.
