Diabetes is on the increase in the Western world and therefore carers will become more and more involved with diabetic patients. This course helps you understand the different types of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2, the possible causes of diabetes and the signs and symptoms that need to be identified to allow diagnosis of diabetes. Diet is discussed as well as the other treatment options, including medication and insulin. Monitoring of blood sugar is essential and the different methods are discussed. Good control of blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels have been shown to reduce long-term complications in diabetes. Long term complications of diabetes are discussed and how they may be prevented.
