Introduction:
This Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) is designed for those who wish to learn ICT skills ready for employment. It is suitable for beginners or those wishing to brush up their existing skill levels. The course is a Level 2 (Intermediate) IT User`s Diploma and is a full Level 2 qualification. It will be undertaken in a formal but relaxed classroom environment in one of the Information Technology building`s computer rooms. It is delivered using a combination of lectures, short talks, demonstrations and examples.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year Part-Time+ course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
On this course you will learn how to use computer software applications, their underlying principles and background theory. There will be a particular emphasis on the following units:

  • Word Processing.
  • Databases.
  • Digital Imaging.
  • Spreadsheets.
  • PowerPoint.
  • Multi-media.
  • Web Page Design.
  • Project Management.
  • ICT in Business.
The above units are taught at Intermediate (Level 2) level, and provide the knowledge, skills and capabilities needed for working with computer application software.You will complete a series of exercises using computer software, all of which are designed to raise your competence and skill levels. It must be remembered that this is very much a `hands-on` course requiring you to practice a great deal. Although it is advantageous for you to have access to a computer and the relevant software outside of College, it is not essential. For those who do not have access to a computer at home, time can be allocated in the Adult, HE & Professional Learning Centre.

Assessment:
Each unit is formally assessed and will be presented in an e-portfolio, making this a paperless course.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This programme provides the necesary skills to seek employment in the IT industry. Successful completion of the course allows progression to an Advanced Diploma in IT Applications, or to courses in Business Studies or Computer Programming.

How To Apply
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
