Course Structure
The pathway does not focus on technology, but presents it as a tool to facilitate ideas, placing emphasis upon its creative use. You will be required to research, then contextualise and develop your project proposal into a final piece of work. Staff with backgrounds in many aspects of the digital medium will advise and help develop your projects, encouraging confidence in your own digital skills and ideas. Further experimentation with the communicative aspects of Digital Arts is offered by collaborative presentations.
During the final development and completion of your personal programme attention is given to personal focus, artistic direction and application. The final work is presented in the form of a public exhibition at the College.
This programme of work is supported, negotiated and supervised throughout the course by specialist academic staff in workshops, individual tutorials, seminars and lectures. Staff and student-led seminars promote debate and work-in-progress sessions allow for supportive critique.
Studies are complemented by lectures, seminars and workshops designed to help you develop wider contextual understanding, research skills and awareness of professional issues.
Content
Digital technology has embedded itself so deeply in creative practice, that it is no longer questioned as a tool or medium. But digital arts students, are encouraged to explore the theoretical implications of this technology. And whether this is looking at production of, or the interaction with an artwork, a project proposal will allow the student to embark on detailed research into the contextual and practical aspects of the project. The use of blogs and wikis by all students and staff, is vital to encouraging collaboration and building a dynamic cohort, based across the UK, Europe and the globe.
Course Highlights
Creative staff, with professional practices of their own, will help you develop your ideas and technical skills, while the University's IT Research and Development Unit offers advice on technology and its implications for projects. This all adds to a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere.
Dedication: Full-time.
