Course programme

Digital Film Production HND Location Start Date Day Time Fees Duration Leamington Sep-2016 Mon, Tue and Wed 09:15 - 16:00 see below 2Year(s) What will I study?

The Higher National Diploma in Digital Film Production has a very high practical content, approximately 2/3 combined with 1/3 theoretical content. This ratio effectively equips graduates to directly enter the industry and also prepares students to progress to the final year of a related BA Honours degree if desired.

Students have access to individual edit suites for the duration of the course and consistent access to up-to-date production equipment. This is coupled with access to learning resources and lecturers five days a week, all possible due to the maintaining of small group sizes.

The course has three main study areas – technical, industry practice and theoretical context:

The technical training on the course has two main functions. The first is to equip students with the necessary skills in film and video production in order that they are prepared for the vocational assignments on the course, and potential employment for the future. The second is to train students in the artistic application of techniques in camera, editing and post production tools in order to best realise their creative ambitions.

The industry practice on the course underpins several areas where vocational skills are developed by students in order to be transferred and applied in a professional environment. This is aided by industry professionals who have a major input into the course over the two year duration. This vocational training aims to develop teamwork and communication skills with peers on productions, along with individual project management and presentation skills, in order to creatively communicate a vision to industry professionals.

The theoretical context of the course works to underpin practical knowledge and application and as such should inform working practices from creation to production to exhibition. The theoretical approaches harnessed by this course seek to alter conventional perspectives of culture and society in a way to enrich creative visions in digital production.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is carried out via course work (there are no exams). For the technical modules assessment is based on the production of practical elements, which are presented in digital formats. For the industry and creative practice modules, assessment is based on pre-production workbooks and short film and video productions (some of which are used in industry practice and assessed by industry professionals). Finally the theoretical modules are assessed through the more traditional methods of essays, reports and case studies.
