Introduction:
This Foundation Level course provides a basic introduction to editing digital images using Adobe Photoshop. It leads to an Open College of the North West (OCNW) Level 1 Certificate and is designed to provide a foundation for progression to a Level 2 (Intermediate) course.

Study Mode & Location:
This part-time course can be studied for 3 hours per week over 7 weeks or for 2 hours per week over 10 weeks.

It is available at the following community venues:

  • Bamber Bridge Learning Centre.
  • Buckingham House Learning Centre.
  • Garstang High School Technology Centre Learning Centre.
  • Harris Library Learning Centre.
  • Preston North End (PNE) Learning Centre.
  • Tanterton Learning Centre.


Course Content:
You will study the following topics:

  • Using Selection Tools.
  • Understanding Layers.
  • Understanding Image Resolution.


You will carry out exercises provided by your tutor for the first 15-18 hours of the course, then during the final weeks you will make a montage of your own from images supplied.

Assessment:
During the course you will produce printouts of each of the exercises and write short notes about how you created the final image (assistance is normally given by your tutor). Some simple questions also need to be answered (again assistance will be given). All printouts and answered questions go together to make up a portfolio of your work, which is handed in as evidence of course completion. Once moderated, your portfolio will be available for collection.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to the Further Skills in Digital Imaging course, which is a Level 2 (Intermediate) course.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
