About this course

No prior knowledge of digital imaging or image manipulation software is necessary for this course. However, familiarity with a computer, keyboard, mouse and experience with the Windows environment to Level 2 is recommended. A memory stick of 250 MB and a copy of Adobe Photoshop 8 is highly desirable but not essential.

Introduction:
This course has been designed to provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of digital imaging processes and to develop basic image input and manipulation skills.

The course will be undertaken in a formal but relaxed classroom environment in one of the Information Technology building`s computer rooms. It will be delivered using a combination of lectures, short talks, demonstrations and examples.

Study Mode & Location:
This 14 week course will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course concentrate on the use of computer digital imaging software with emphasis on using scanners, digital cameras and other sources. Manipulation techniques will include: scale, brushes, colour/tone, shape, texture and insertion.

Assessment:
Assessment consists of a short assignment, an extended assignment and a portfolio showing progress through the course.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course will allow access to other additional Level 2 courses, the Diploma in IT applications, and Web Site Design (AutoCAD).

You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
