Course programme

The course begins with a discussion on basic camera operation. Then by taking part in a series of workshops you will develop an awareness of the essential techniques and picture making skills applicable to photography.

Topics include:

  • Choice of lens, focus control, file formats, ISO and light meters
  • Exposure control and the use of flash
  • Composition and framing techniques
  • Creative camera control
  • Importing and managing digital files
  • Editing procedures for colour and B&W images
  • Ink-jet printing and uploading onto social media

With an assignment set at the end of each talk to give you the chance to put these into practice by going out and taking photographs and receiving valuable feedback.

Each session will also devote a certain amount of time to working on your images using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and discussing your work with the tutor on a 1 to1 basis.

Finally, the course concludes with an informal group critique of everyone's work that gives you a chance to think about how you might progress.
