This course is suitable for both beginners and those who have a basic understanding of photography, who wish to have greater creative control over their equipment and at the same time develop their appreciation of the medium. During the course there will be informal lectures and workshops that introduce both the creative and technical possibilities of your camera as you learn how to use the various settings and functions by responding to a set of briefs, and these will be supplemented by slide lectures on historical and contemporary artwork which explore the aesthetics of photography.

Course programme
Topics include:
- Choice of lens, focus control, file formats, ISO and light meters
- Exposure control and the use of flash
- Composition and framing techniques
- Creative camera control
- Importing and managing digital files
- Editing procedures for colour and B&W images
- Ink-jet printing and uploading onto social media
With an assignment set at the end of each talk to give you the chance to put these into practice by going out and taking photographs and receiving valuable feedback.
Each session will also devote a certain amount of time to working on your images using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and discussing your work with the tutor on a 1 to1 basis.
Finally, the course concludes with an informal group critique of everyone's work that gives you a chance to think about how you might progress.
