Course programme
This course explores the technique of placement and repeat prints for textiles. Placement prints feature highly amongst luxury fashion houses collections. With an introduction to textile design you will study designers working with print and expand your knowledge of print techniques.
Throughout the course you will develop your own ideas using a variety of media sources: drawings, painting or photography, as a starting point. You will subsequently manipulate your ideas in Photoshop before finally digitally printing your design onto fabric.
Working to a brief you will create a placement print onto a panel of fabric which you will then make into a simple garment.
As part of the course students will learn how to prepare their files to print and visit a working print bureaux.
The course includes:
- Expand knowledge of print designing and designers already working in industry
- Research techniques and development
- Exploring different media as the starting point for prints
- Fabric awareness
- Introduction to the basics of Photoshop
- Use of latest digital printers and visit to a textile bureau
- Creation of a simple T-shirt style garment
Level:
Beginner/intermediate you should have an interest in the subject and basic Photoshop skills are welcome but not required.
