The Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery is designed to develop the basic skills and related job knowledge that you require to follow a career as a carpenter and joiner.

The topics you will study include:

· Knowing how to carry out safe working practices
· Knowledge of information, quantities and communication
· Knowledge of building methods and construction technology
· Knowledge of basic woodworking joints
· Know how to maintain and use woodworking hand tools
· Know how to prepare and use portable power tools.

You will be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications
alongside your main course. These will include qualifications in Functional Skills and can also include more specialist awards relevant to the subject you are studying.

How will I be assessed?
Your job knowledge and practical skills will be assessed in a number of ways, including:

· Practical tests
· Observations of you working
· Assignments and knowledge questions
· Projects
· Portfolio of evidence
· By completing a test at the end of the year.

You will be given plenty of support throughout your studies. Tutors and support staff will guide you through the different projects and assignments to ensure you get the most from the course.
