Learners will usually have achieved Level 2 counselling or a related qualification which incorporates counselling skills at level 2. Learners will usually be 19+ and able to comply with the appropriate literacy and health and safety elements of this programme. About this course

You must hold the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or an equivalent certificate from an alternative awarding body. Learners require a good level of oral and written English to participate in the course, ideally level 2 (GCSE) which is required to read handouts, write assignments and produce a portfolio of work. You will also be expected to produce assignments in a word-processed format.You will be required to attend an initial assessment and discuss your enrolment prior to enrolling with your counselling tutor . Course programme

What will I study on the course?

The course consists of five units:

- Developing counselling skills

- Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills

- Work ethically with counselling skills

- Counselling skills and diversity

- Counselling skills and personal development

In order to complete the course, you must successfully complete all five units.

Additional information

The course runs for 3/5hrs, one evening/day per week over 15-30 sessions. It consists of a participative approach using tutor input, role plays, discussions, independent research, group and paired work, case studies and demonstrations backed up with handouts to reinforce learning. This includes skills practice which will be assessed through observation and reflection. Personal commitment, ability to meet deadlines and regular attendance is essential.
