Course programme

What will I study?
You'll cover lots of exciting visual creative processes,
alongside conceptual ideas and practical skills. You'll get to try
lots of different disciplines.By doing practical activities,
workshops and small projects, usually combining two or more
disciplines, you'll get to use these skills to create something
real. All major projects are 'live projects'; this means
working with real audiences and real world locations or venues.
You will have regular sessions (workshops, talks and visits)
with professionals from the industry: for example working with an
animator, photographer, graffiti artist, set designer or film
director. You will also have the opportunity to work with students
from other creative areas - for example producing costumes for
performers or visuals for Djs and bands.
There are regular trips and visits to find out about specific
jobs and work going on in the creative industries, for example a
back stage tour at the National Theatre, a visit to the Goodwood
sculpture park, to find out about putting together an art
exhibition at the ICA gallery or to a film and animation
screening.
Work Experience
On your Diploma course you'll get to do at least 10 days' work
experience. It's a great way to use the skills you've learnt in the
classroom, and see what work is really like - you might even make
some good industry contacts.

Subjects:
  • Animation
  • Digital arts
  • Technical theatre
  • Lighting
  • Projection
  • Photography
  • Costume
  • Site specific art
  • Sculpture
  • Graphics
  • Textiles
  • Performance Art
  • Vjing
  • Advertising
  • Film
  • Functional Skills (curriculum subjects): You'll still do
English, Maths and ICT as part of your Diploma course. You'll need
them to get your Diploma qualification, and for whatever you go on
    to do next.
  • Student Project: You can do your project about anything you
like because you choose the topic, and how you're going to present
your work. You'll need to show all the things you've learnt on your
Diploma course, but what you do it on is up to you. It could be a
visual piece of work, or written piece like a report; an
    investigation or something practical.
These are optional subjects:
You can take specialist courses in Creative and Media as part of
your Diploma. You could learn about dark room printing if
photography is your thing, or set design if theatre is your
thing.
What can I do next?
This can lead to further studies at Level 3 in Creative and
Media, either as a Diploma or as a specialist BTEC in Art &
Design, Media Production, Performing Arts, Dance, Technical Theatre
or Music.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
Please note: For courses of more than one year, the fees
stated apply to the first year of the 2009/2010 academic year
only.
