Diploma in Hotel Management (CTH)
The Diploma in Hotel Management aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the operational aspects of the international hotel industry, and a knowledge of the underlying principles involved. This programme has been devised on the basis that students will attend a course of study of not less than 450 hours. Private study will be required over and above this figure. Each of the modules has a two and a half hour examination, set and marked by CTH.
The aims of the course are to:
Provide students with an understanding of the food and beverage operations within a hotel Provide students with basic knowledge of food hygiene and nutrition Provide students with an understanding of the role of the front office and reception in a hotel Provide students with an understanding of the facilities and accommodation services in a hotel Provide students with a basic knowledge of hospitality costing and control systems Provide students with an understanding of the staffing and supervisory aspects of the industry Introduce students to the basic principles of marketing and apply them to the hotel industry Provide students with an understanding of the role of tourism within the industry Provide students with knowledge of computers and their application and use within the industry Provide students with the opportunity to explore the scope of the industry, the various activities contained within it and its position in relation to the world market

Entry Requirements
No specific educational qualifications are required, although it is desirable to have completed formal secondary education. If English is not the student's first language, we recommend you achieve a level equivalent to IELTS 5.0 / TOEFL 495.
Examinations
Each of the above modules will have a 21/2 hour examination. This will be set and marked by the CTH. Coursework assignments will also be set to monitor students' progress on the course.
Eligibility for entry to examination
Candidates for the Confederation's examinations must, at the time of entry, be undertaking (or have already completed) the respective course at an approved educational establishment, and be a member of the CTH.
CTH Management Course Pathways
The schematic below shows the flexibility of the CTH management programmes in the way that, in addition to being career-led, they also dovetail to the academic requirements for credit entry to British universities.
"Students who have completed the CTH Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes have been accepted onto the final year of the Bournemouth University BA in Tourism and Hospitality Management".
