Course overview Are you passionate about food? Do you dream of a career in catering but don’t know where to start? Whether you are a school leaver or looking to change profession, this course will introduce you to the world of cookery and provide you with the skills and training you need to get a head start in the industry. You will learn different cooking methods, such as boiling, poaching, steaming, stewing, baking, roasting, grilling and frying. You will also learn how to prepare cold foods, pre-prepared foods and food for special diets. In addition to practical training, you will study a variety of topics and you’ll also have the opportunity to enter major national competitions and take part in work experience placements and trips to catering establishments. Entry requirements You will have a reasonable standard of secondary education, with four GCSE grades A-D in academic subjects, including English language. You will be asked to attend an interview to show your interest in the course.
