Overview
Having worked your way up the levels required by the motor industry, you will specialise in more complex diagnostics and fault finding. Using a range of specialist equipment, you will focus on complex engine diagnostics, transmission systems and auxiliary electric systems including body control, airbags, heating and ventilation and networks and vehicle systems, before joining the motor trade.

Entry Requirements
You must have completed the Vehicle Maintenance and Repair IMI Level 2 Diploma. In addition you will need a minimum of GCSE grade C in English and/or maths or L2 Functional Skills.

Course Duration
One year, full time.

Skills and Benefits
This is a diagnostic course covering engines, transmission and electronic systems. You will undertake a number of modules through a mixture of classroom lessons and practical workshops. These will include the removal, replacement and testing of named systems and components.

There are no optional units on this qualification.

Course Assessment
Achievement of the qualification is via continual assessment. This takes the form of assignments, phase tests, online exams and workshop practical assessments. Good attendance, enthusiasm and application are essential.

Progression
Employment as a qualified technician within the Motor Industry, or an Advanced Apprenticeship. You may also wish to complete a Foundation Degree in Motor Sport or the Foundation Degree in Automotive Technology, with the appropriate additional qualifications.
