Course review:

On completion of the Swedish Massage Diploma course, or a qualification of a similar standard, it is possible to gain entry to the Reflexology Diploma.

The Scottish Massage Schools Reflexology course runs one weekend per month for 6 months at various venues.

The Reflexology Diploma course is designed to lead the physical therapist through techniques for restoring balance and harmony to the mind and body, by working on the physical and emotional body mapped out on the hands and feet.

As health deteriorates energy becomes blocked. Reflexology helps this energy to flow efficiently again, giving the body the chance to heal itself.

Reflexology can also be used as a diagnostic tool and to relieve stress, as well as help the body to deal with pathological conditions.

Business Management forms part of the course and the graduate may choose to be either self-employed or seek employment at a Health Centre, Complementary Centre, Sports Club or Hotel.

To gain a Diploma in Reflexology the student must:

1. attend 87 hours of training over 6 weekends
2. complete home assignments and practice the skills learned at each weekend
3. attain the required standard, passing the final written and practical examinations
4. compile the required case studies to the standard required and submit
5. have the attitude and professionalism required for a professional Reflexologist.

Reflexology is the examination and treatment of reflexes that are found within 5 zones on each foot. A reflex corresponds to a specific organ and is also related to the meridians of the body.

Reflexology can also be used as a diagnostic tool, for relieving stress as well as helping the body to deal with pathological conditions.

As health deteriorates so energy becomes blocked. Reflexology helps this energy to flow efficiently again, giving the body the chance to heal itself.

On receipt of their Reflexology Diploma the graduate is encouraged to join the Scottish Massage Therapists’ Organisation and then to:

* set up in business as a self-employed Reflexologist OR
* find employment at a health centre, complementary centre, sports club or hotel OR
* participate in further education with Scottish Massage Schools.
