Course suitability

Minimum of 75 teaching hours for each year.

A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in subject specialism.

Information about the course

The course runs part time over 2 years. During this time you will develop your practical skills in teaching and be able to apply the theory learnt during class sessions.

Course content

Modules studied in Year 1 will be:

Planning & Enabling Learning, including Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
Enabling Learning & Assessment
Theories & Principles of Planning and Enabling Learning
Managing and Supporting Learning

Modules studied in Year 2 will be:

Curriculum Design & Implementation of Inclusive Practice
Wider Professional Practice
Subject Specialist Study

During Year 1 you will have 4 lesson observations and 3 in Year 2 and you will be expected to reflect upon your practice and respond to the assessors comments

Additionality

For members of West Herts College you will be assigned a mentor for the duration of the course, who will offer support and guidance within your subject area and will also carry out some of the lesson observations.

For external candidates you will be offered advice in finding a mentor within your work place, who will offer support and guidance within your subject area and will also carry out some of the lesson observations.

When will I receive my results?

Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.

Assessment

General Assessment Criteria for Coursework

Each module will be assessed through one piece of coursework

All assignments must be presented to an acceptable level of English, observing the conventions of structure, cohesion, syntax and grammar characterised by standard English.

All assignments must be accompanied by a signed declaration that the work is the trainee’s own.

Additional information

Payment options: Part-time enrolments are subject to an additional annual registration fee of £10 payable once only per academic year (exemptions may apply).
