Entry to this course follows the successful completion of the Advanced Certificate in Counselling, the Intermediate Certificate in Counselling and the Introduction to Counselling Concepts or equivalent (levels 2 and 3). Students must have an interest in working with people and be a minimum of 19 years old. Students will be required to attend an interview selection process.

Study Method:
Class sessions will be weekly lectures and 5 Saturday Schools which are mandatory. Class sessions will be participative combining individual work, tutor input, group exercises and role-plays. There will also be background reading.
Duration :The complete course is over 2 academic years.
36 weeks per academic year, 3.30 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Who the Course is For:
This qualification is intended for candidates who want to train to become a counsellor working in a counselling service agency. All agencies should provide the trainee with a service framework that includes both a line manager and clinical supervision.
Successful completion of the qualification means that the trainees will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service - initially within the context of an agencys service framework.
Assessment:
You will be required to complete a minimum of 100 hours formally-contracted counselling with at least 5 different clients in an agency setting, (over the 2 year course).

Content:
The primary learning goal for this course is that students will develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of the main three theories in Counselling, and apply that knowledge and skills in an agency setting. Students will learn the three main theoretical approaches that underpin counselling; Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural.
Students require clinical supervision for their agency client work.
You will also be required to complete a minimum of 40 hours personal therapy during the life of the course. This counselling will be consistent with the modalities taught on the course.
