About this course

You need to be friendly, outgoing and self-motivated and have a positive attitude towards customer service. You will need to have excellent verbal and written communications skills, a high standard of personal presentation, initiative, energy and enthusiasm with a strong commitment to team-work. You will need to be a minimum of 18 years of age by April 2009.

Who is the programme for? This programme is for anyone who would like to work in the fast moving, exciting and challenging environment of an airport. It will provide you with the opportunity to train as a OCNW Passenger Services Agent with work shadowing at Liverpool Airport (transport provided). When you successfully complete the programme you will also achieve the OCNW Passenger Service Agents Certificate and be offered an interview for employment as a Passenger Services Agent, to commence work after Easter 2009.

What will I study? The Diploma is made up of 5 units of study: 1 Introduction to the Travel Industry 2 Communication with customers and colleagues 3 Introduction to worldwide travel 4 Airports and passengers 5 Air Fares and Ticketing The Passenger Service Certificate includes: Health and Safety, Airport Security, IATA Dangerous Goods, Passport/Visa/Ticket Validity, Aircraft Seating, Boarding Cards and Bag Tags and Computerised Check in Procedures and Boarding at Gate and Computerised Boarding.

Entry to the Programme?

How is it assessed? Assessment for the Diploma includes: an externally tested unit and internally assessed portfolio work, including reasearch, case studies, role-play simulation, observations of practical skills and assignments. Assessment for the Passenger Service Agent Certificate involves 3 main topics tests with a pass mark of 80%, and observation of personal and customer service skills.

Future prospects? Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to undertake an interview for a position as a Passengers Service Agent with Servisair to commence at the start of the summer 2009 season. This would be the ideal platform to launch your Air Industry Career. Within Servisair and indeed the many companies operating within the aiport, there are a number of routes you may take to develop your career. From working your way to becoming a supervisor, or eventually a trainer, to working on the ticketing desks or becoming a flight dispatcher, to name a few.
When will the programme start?

How long will it take? The programme starts in September and runs for two terms. It will be completed by Easter 2009. You will be expected to attend college for approximately 19 hours per week.

What about the Money? If you are under 19 on 31st August 2009 you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees. If you are over 19 years of age

How do I apply? Obtain an application form from student services and return it to Maureen Briers at the Town Centre Campus. You will then be asked to attend college for an interview with members of the programme team.
