NVQ Level 2 Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Operations

This Level 2 NVQ in Distribution, Warehousing and Storage is primarily aimed at candidates who undertake varied warehousing, storage and logistics activities at level 2. The qualification is about the safe and efficient receipt, movement, storage, handling and dispatch of goods in a warehousing and logistics environment. Candidates should have a degree of autonomy and be required to make decisions within agreed boundaries and limits.

Who can take this qualification?

Distribution Warehousing and Storage Operations NVQs are aimed at people working in the distribution sector.

Like all NVQs, this qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to your ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with your work. You will plan a programme of development with your assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that you are competent and knowledgeable in your work role.

This NVQ is designed to reflect the work of candidates working within a distribution, warehousing and storage environment. The NVQ will be appropriate for candidates who are:

  • Already competent in basic skills and require recognition for a wider range of abilities within the distribution, warehousing and storage sector.
  • Wishing to demonstrate competence gained previously in the sector or associated industries.
  • Progressing from a Level 1 NVQ in Distributive Operations.

How does this qualification improve my career prospects?

Candidates who achieve the qualification could progress onto the Warehousing NVQ Level 3. Alternatively, candidates have the option to progress onto the Customer Service NVQ or Team Leader courses.

What does it involve?

To achieve the full award, candidates must complete eight units, including three mandatory units and five optional units:

Candidates must achieve all of the following mandatory units:

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace
  • Contribute to keeping the workplace secure
  • Work effectively in own organisation

Candidates must achieve five of the following optional units:

Group 1: Stock Storage and Order Processing:

  • Receive goods and materials into storage
  • Put goods and materials into storage
  • Maintain the quality of goods in storage
  • Dispatch goods and materials
  • Assemble bulk orders for distribution
  • Pick stock and make up orders
  • Process orders for goods
  • Process returned goods and materials
  • Process donated goods for resale and recycling.

Group 2: Promoting Products to Customers:

  • Help customers to choose products
  • Provide information and advice to customers.

Group 3: Customer Services:

  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and the organisation.

Group 4: Organisational Effectiveness:

  • Maintain the safety of high risk goods and materials
  • Maintain hygiene standards in handling and storing food products.
