Course programme
MA in Documentary Practice
Mode: part-time
It is not a basic primer, and assumes that students are functionally competent in the technical aspects of the medium in which they wish to work. While key areas of the MA focus on moving-image screen-based forms, the programme actively embraces and supports work in other forms, including photography, writing, audio/radio, web-sites, site-specific installations, and live performance.
This is supported by appropriate understandings of theory, and the history and potential of documentary. Each student produces a documentary project as the major component of the dissertation. Practical and technical skills for this can be advanced and developed as appropriate, depending on individual needs.
The University of Bristol has distinguished traditions in documentary study and practice across a range of media and forms, with expert scholars and practitioners working on the programme, a wide network of alumni at the forefronts of their fields, and strong relationships with the international community.
