Course Content: This course is designed to enable practicing electricians, operating in the domestic environment, to gain an understanding of how electrical installations in dwellings must comply with all relevant building regulations.

The course may also be suitable for domestic installers who have completed a competent person scheme (Part P).

The course covers the general requirements of the Building Regulations in relation to electrical installations in dwellings and the methods of compliance with the six parts of the Building Regulations most relevant to electrical installations in dwellings, i.e. parts concerned with structure (A), fire safety (B), resistance to passage of sound (E), ventilation extraction (F), conservation of fuel and power (L1), and access to - and use of - buildings (M).

Special Features: The programme is assessed via a 20 question, 40 minute multiple-choice City & Guilds on-line open book examination. One or both of following publications are permitted in the exam and should be acquired prior to starting the course:

* Electrician's Guide to the Building Regulations (Part P, 2nd Edition). Published by the IET (ISBN 978-0-86341-862-4).

* Electrical Installers' Guide to the Building Regulations for Dwellings and Associated Areas in England and Wales. Jointly published by NICEIC and ECA (ISBN 0-9548791-0-4).

Course Format: 1 evening, 6.00 - 9.00pm (Wednesday) at Ashton Centre

Progression: On completion of this qualification learners may progress on to the City & Guilds level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations, BS7671:2008 (2382-10).
