About this course

In August 2003, the HSE made changes to the catergory of entrants that are acceptable for GasSafe registration. Without previous gas experience, you will not be eligible for the ACS, which is the accepted route to demonstrate your competence. Therefore , if you are a new entrant to the gas industry and you don't have the required qualifications or experience you must undertake a suitable structured training programme such as Access Training's Domestic Gas Instaler course, to be eligible to join GasSafe and work legally.

Course programme

Access Training's certified centre offers this structured training package as a route into the gas industry. Developed with GasSafe, our Domestic Gas Installer course is the natural route into the Domestic Gas industry via the Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS), which upon successful completion, with the appropriate experience, can lead to GasSafe registration.

Our dedicated advisors will establish, through consultation with every candidate, their previous experience, their level of practical skill and technical ability. A typical student could be someone already working as a 'mate' within the gas/plumbing related industries, or as is often the case, someone looking for a career change without any previous experience. Rest assured, we guaranteethat all our students are capable of completing the course which in no doubt cntributes to our exceptional pass rates.

Our training courses are delivered through a combination of Home Study and Onsite Specialist Training at one of our Certified Training Centres. Home Study is completed to correspond with modules of Onsite Specialist Training which you will undertake at a pace to suit both your ability and your current circumstances. Our qualified staff are here to answer your questions and help you every step of the way - in person, over the phone or via email. During your Onsite Specialist Training you will undergo both practical work and classroom based learning. A number of exams and practical assessments will be required for you to pass along with your submission of an acceptable portfolio of evidence.

NICEICE Certification, offers a structured training package as an alternative to NVQ as a route into the gas industry. The course is based on modules of Onsite Specialist Training at our gas centre, followed by the candidate working under the supervision of an existing GasSafe registered engineer to creat a portfolio of evidence on various areas of work. During collation of your practical evidence, sufficient support and guidance will be given to ensure completion. Once your portfolio is complete you will receive a certificate of achievement, which allows you to go forward to undertake ACS Gas Safety (CCN1). Whilst our Careers Advisors can offer help and advice, responsibility for arranging work placement with a GasSafe registered Gas Installer rests with the student. Your practical on-site tasks will include:-

  • Tightness tests with and without appliances
  • Tightness test (medium pressure)
  • Appliance Service
  • Appliance breakdowns
  • Appliance gas rates (imperial and metric)
  • Working pressure at meter checks
  • Standing pressure checks
  • Spillage tests
  • Trace and repair gas leaks
  • Flue flow tests
  • Identify correct ventilation
  • Visual flue insoections
  • Appliance re-lights
  • ACS Assessment - CCN1 plus 4 Appliances

One of the benefits of training with Access Training is that the individuals who run the courses have experience of working in the industry and are only too keen to pass on their knowledge. They can guide you in the right direction for either gaining employment with reputable firms or becoming self-employed.
