Course programme
In the first year, you will study a general history of Drama and Theatre, and also learn how performance can radically alter a text. In your second year, you will study theories of performance and texts in their historical context. There will be a number of theatre trips to support your study.
- You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
- In addition, we also expect you to have achieved a grade B or above in GCSE Drama. If you have not taken the subject at GCSE, but have extensive experience in Drama, this will be accepted as an alternative. We will request a letter from your theatre company as evidence for this.
International students:
- Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
- IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.
In your second year, you need to devise and develop your own piece of theatre as either director or performer. There is also a written exam, in which you discuss a play from the point of view of a director and another play in its historic context.
Students on this course have progressed to study drama at universities and Drama schools for example LAMDA, the Central School of Speech And Drama, Manchester Metropolitan, Hull, Bristol and Rose Bruford.
